Went from a borrowed auger to a powered one, night and day difference

Last week I helped a buddy set posts for a fence off Paseo. He lent me his manual auger and after 2 holes in that caliche I wanted to quit. On day 2 I rented a one man powered auger from Home Depot for $68. It cut through the same dirt in about 4 minutes per hole. Same fence line, same day, zero back pain. Has anyone else made that switch and gone back to manual for small jobs or is the rental cost always worth it?

I rented one for a weekend to put in a small shed foundation and told myself I'd never do it again for just a few holes. Then last month I only had to set 3 posts and thought I'd save the money. Big mistake. That manual auger kicked my butt in clay and I was sore for two days. Now I just factor the rental cost into any job with more than one hole. The time saved is worth more than the $68 to me honestly.
