Question about the moment I caught my ad spend bleeding out, was it the audiences or the creative?
I run solo campaigns for a few small local clients, and for 5 months I kept blaming bad audiences for my rising cost per click. Then in March I pulled a report by device and saw 78% of my budget was going to mobile placements on apps I never picked, so I shut those off and my cost per lead fell from $22 to $9 in 9 days. Now I keep arguing with myself about which one mattered more, the audience cleanup or finally rewriting the first 3 seconds of the video. Was my real mistake trusting auto placements, or was it that I never checked the placement report once? If you had to rank fixes, would you touch targeting or creative first?
Auto placements are the silent killer. Everyone wants to blame creative because it FEELS more in your control, but you can't out-write a video that's being shown to people who will never buy. Fix the placements first, always. Creative matters, but targeting decides who even sees it.
