That time a gas station ad in Fargo made me miss my exit and changed how I listen to radio
I was driving through Fargo on I-94 about 6 months ago, heading to see my brother, when I stopped for gas at a station right off the highway. While I was pumping, this ad came on the little speaker above the pump. It was a 90 second spot for a local mattress store, and it was so weird and long that I just stood there listening instead of getting back in my car. The ad had this guy whispering about how his back hurt for 10 years until he found the right mattress, and then he started listing off prices like $299 for a queen, $399 for a king, all while this soft saxophone played in the background. I was so caught up in how confusing the whole thing was that I forgot where I was for a second and ended up missing my exit by about 4 miles. Now I actually pay attention to local radio ads because they're like little time capsules of what a town cares about, and I think most people who skip them are missing out on some of the best weird content out there. Has anyone else ever gotten distracted by a local ad and ended up somewhere totally off route?
