AI made my beagle into a taco and it looked better before the cheese
I ran my dog Rufus through one of those AI mashup tools out of sheer boredom three weeks ago, and the first pass turned him into a walking taco. The shell was wrapped around his body, lettuce was falling out of his ears, and his tail was a churro. It was so dumb I laughed for a solid five minutes, but here is the part that bugs me. When I tried to make a second version a few days later, the tool had clearly been updated, and suddenly Rufus looked less like a real taco dog and more like a plastic toy from a kids meal. The fur detail was gone, the lighting was flat, and the whole thing felt like a corporate mascot instead of a weird mashup. So now I am stuck on the fence. Do we want these tools to get cleaner and more polished, or do we want them to stay janky and strange? The jank is what made me want to share the first one with my brother in Fargo in the first place. Am I the only one who misses when the AI got it a little wrong on purpose? Tell me if your best mashup came from the messy version or the cleaned up one.
My buddy ran his cat through one of these and the early version gave him a cat with a hot dog body and one messed up eye, which he printed and hung in his garage. The newer version came out clean but boring, and he deleted it.
