Pro tip: don't trust the 'air fry' setting on your oven

I tried making frozen fries using my oven's built-in air fry function last night, and it was a total mess. The fan blew the fries around the whole oven, and they came out burnt on one side and raw on the other. I had to clean the whole oven floor after. Has anyone else had this happen and found a good fix, or should I just stick to my regular air fryer?

Yeah, that's the problem with those combo appliances. They try to do everything and end up doing nothing well. My toaster oven's "air fry" setting is just a fan that makes a lot of noise.

Skip the combo settings and just use the regular bake function with convection if you have it. Crank up the heat a bit higher than the recipe says, works way better than those fake air fry modes.

My old Breville toaster oven had that exact same issue. The air fry button just ran the fan at max speed and dried everything out. I mean, is there any actual standard for what makes something an air fryer, or can companies just slap that label on any appliance with a fan now? It feels like a total marketing trick at this point. I'd rather just use my actual air fryer or do what cooper said and use convection bake.
