Just realized my green fix for a washer turned into a bubble party

I got a call to fix an old washing machine, and the owner was super into saving the planet. She asked me to use only parts that were good for the earth, so I ordered these new hoses made from corn or something. When I put them in, they seemed okay at first. But as soon as we ran a load, the hoses puffed up like balloons from the detergent. Suddenly, soapy water and suds were everywhere, covering the floor. It was so crazy, like a kid's foam party in her laundry room. We spent ages cleaning it up with every towel she had. She just giggled and said it was a messy win for nature, but idk, maybe some things aren't meant to be that green.

Oh man, my compostable sponge once... nevermind.

Read an article about that happening. Some of those plant-based items are designed to break down in industrial compost, not your kitchen sink. The heat and microbes in a big compost facility work a lot faster than a home bin. If the sponge gets too wet during use, it can start to disintegrate way before you want it to. Makes a real mess in the dish rack. The idea is good, but the execution seems tricky to get right.

Hoses from corn... did they just dissolve in the detergent?
