My wife's cousin insisted I use a hair dryer on a seized washing machine pump.
He swore it would warm the plastic housing enough to break the seal, so I tried it on a Whirlpool direct drive last Tuesday. The pump came free, but I also managed to melt a small section of the impeller, which cost me an extra $35 for the part. Has anyone else had a bizarre home remedy actually work, but with a catch?

That's the risk with these hacks, they fix one thing but can easily wreck another.
