I finally checked the coordinates on that viral 'lost city' post from Peru and they land in a farm field
Three separate people in my local history group shared a drone shot last month claiming it showed a 1,500 year old city near Cusco, and I pulled the GPS strip from the file. The spot sits at 13.5189 S, 71.9782 W, which is a working potato field about 12 miles from the actual dig at Choquequirao. It matters because folks are already emailing museums asking about 'the discovery' and one guy even wrote a blog post with a fake map. People, always check the photo metadata before you share. Has anyone else run into this with the same drone account, or is it just the group I'm in?
Man, I gotta say you're being kind of harsh on the group here lol. That drone shot is probably just some travel account posting old stock footage with wrong tags, it happens all the time and most people aren't gonna pull GPS data off a jpeg before they click share. You're right that the museum emails are a problem, but calling out the whole group like they're dumb feels off, the real issue is whoever made the video in the first place. Fact checking is good, I'm with you there, but this stuff spreads because it looks cool and people like the story, not because everyone in your history group is lazy. Just my two cents, no hard feelings.
