Appreciation post: I used to just hose my truck down on Saturdays, now I do it in a bay at the self serve on Cesar Chavez
For years I would pull my truck onto the driveway in Phoenix and blast it with a garden hose, then dry it with an old beach towel my kid left behind. Sun here is brutal, so I was basically baking water spots into the clear coat every single time and I never put two and two together. Then about 5 months ago a guy at the parts counter mentioned that the self serve wash over on Cesar Chavez has a covered bay and a spot free rinse setting, and it costs me $4.75 in quarters. I figured for that price I would try it once. The difference is honestly embarrassing. No sun beating down, no spots, and I can take my time wiping the door jambs and the wheel wells instead of rushing before everything dries. I still do a quick rinse at home between real washes, but the bay is where the actual work happens now. Has anyone here found a coin op with a decent covered bay, or do you just wash early in the morning and hope for the best with the sun?
The sun in Phoenix doesn't wash your truck, it bakes the water spots in like a jerk with a grudge. I spent years doing the same dumb routine, hose it down at 7am, towel it off while already sweating through my shirt, and by 9 the hood looked like a map of Arizona lakes. The covered bay thing is a game changer because shade alone buys you an extra 20 minutes before the water turns to cement. Four seventy five in quarters is cheaper than the therapy I need from watching my paint fade. I just hit the coin op near my place at 6am now and let the early crowd fight over the vacuum stations.
