My old boss told me 12 years ago to never learn fades, and I think he was right about one thing
I started at a shop in Bakersfield in 2013 and the owner Ray told me straight up to skip fades and stick to scissor work and straight razor lines because that's what keeps regulars coming back for years. I ignored him for a whole year and chased every fade trend on Instagram, and my chair sat empty on weekdays while his book was full of guys who'd been with him since the 90s. Now I want to ask the old heads here, do you think specialty work like fades actually builds a long term client list or just a bunch of one time walk ins?
