That chat with a restaurant owner about why he stopped paying for influencer posts
I was grabbing lunch at this small italian place in Austin last week and ended up talking to the owner about how his social media was going. He said he used to pay influencers like $500 a post for dinner pics and got almost nothing from it. Then he just started reposting customer stories for free and his reservations went up 30% in 2 months. Made me wonder if the whole paid influencer thing is dying for small businesses. Has anyone else seen a brand ditch paid collabs and do better?

Are you really saying a few customer reposts beat professional marketing? I get why he ditched influencers if he was paying random people with 5k followers. That's a waste. But a good influencer with an engaged local audience? Different story. Knew a taco spot that paid one guy $800 for a weekend post. They had a line out the door for two months straight. Customer reposts are cheap but random. They don't drive the same kind of targeted traffic.

That $800 taco spot story got me. I used to think all influencer marketing was a scam. But you're right about the local thing. One good post beats a hundred random reposts.
