Found out the dropouts on my 1987 Stumpjumper are spaced 126mm, not 135, and I've been forcing wheels in for months
Pulled the calipers out on a slow Tuesday at the shop and just stared at the number for a minute. Anyone else run into an old frame with spacing that doesn't match anything modern, and what did you do, cold set it or just hunt down old hubs?
That number staring back at you is exactly why I would never cold set a classic frame like that. Bending those dropouts on a 30+ year old Stumpjumper is asking for trouble, you weaken the metal and a good frame is gone forever. Just hunt down a 126mm hub or run a 130 with a small spacer, they made tons of them back in the day and they show up cheap on the used market. Forcing wheels in for months already put stress on it, so why make it worse when the right part is out there.
