Dropped $220 on a digital pyrometer last year and it saved my 5160 batch from going up in smoke
I was eyeballing colors for tempering like an idiot for years until I finally bought a used pyrometer from a guy in Toledo. Last Tuesday it caught my forge running 180 degrees hotter than I thought and my springs would have been brittle junk. If you are still judging heat by color alone you are guessing with money on the line. What are you all using to check temps, or am I the last guy to stop trusting my eyes?
