I finally melted a tong in half on a coal forge in Tulsa last month
I was in my buddy's shop in Tulsa helping him finish a set of bottle openers when I grabbed the wrong pair of tongs and left them in the fire way too long. The reins got soft, then droopy, and by the time I pulled them out one jaw just bent like taffy, so I quenched what was left, cut the bad section off, and re-forged a new jaw with a punch and a little fuller work. Do you guys keep a dedicated junk pair around for stuff like this, or do you just try to save every tool you wreck?
