Visited a tiny bookshop in Portland last week and noticed something weird
Almost every shelf had books with handmade covers using fabric instead of leather. Is this becoming a trend or did I just stumble into a hipster bubble?
Wait, wait. Fabric covers? Like, actual cloth sewn onto the book? That sounds insane, I didn't even know people did that. I would have stood there touching every single one.
The first time I saw one was at a library book sale, one of those old cloth bound books from like 1910 with this soft green cover that had a faint floral pattern woven into it. @emery_young13 I totally get the touching thing, I rubbed my thumb over it for a solid minute before I realized the librarian was staring at me. My wife still makes fun of me for that, says I looked like I was petting a cat. But honestly those old cloth covers have such a nice feel, not like the slick dust jackets we get today.
