Serious question, why does everyone drown their succulents in fancy soil?
I've been growing succulents on my windowsill in Tucson for about 4 years now and I keep seeing people buy these $20 bags of "specialty cactus mix" that honestly hold water like a sponge. I finally figured out that the fix is just mixing in perlite or pumice at a 50/50 ratio with regular potting soil, which cost me like $6 total at the hardware store down the street. My jade plant that had been dropping leaves for months perked up in about 3 weeks after I repotted it this way. Has anyone else noticed the fancy bagged mixes are actually worse, or did I just get a bad batch?
