TIL tap water beats fancy misting spray for my ferns

I got a $22 misting bottle with distilled water at the garden shop near Portland, but my Boston fern kept browning. Then I just used my regular tap water from the sink, letting it sit out overnight like my grandma did. The chloramine evaporates fine and the fern perked up in about 10 days. Is there a reason plant shops push those specialty sprays when plain water works better?
