Why I stopped clapping after every agenda item at the Bothell Community Board meeting
I go to the Bothell Community Board meeting at the library on Main St, and last month I sat through 2 hours of people clapping after every single update from the parks committee. I get it, people want to show support, but clapping just eats time off the 3 minute speaking limit and by item 9 we were running 40 minutes over. I started keeping my hands still and a guy behind me tapped my shoulder and asked if I had a problem with the parks plan. My view is simple: save the clapping for the end, ask your questions while the clock runs, and let the board actually get through the agenda. Has anyone else watched these meetings run long because of applause, or is it just me?
