Old timer at the supply yard told me to wet my brick before laying in July heat, and now my mortar finally grabs
I was loading up pallets last month in Phoenix when a guy with 30 years on me pointed at my dry stack and asked if I was trying to bake cookies out here. He said in 110 degree heat the brick sucks the water right out of the mortar before it can cure, so the bond never sets right. I tried it on a small garden wall job last week, dunked each one in a barrel for a couple seconds, and I swear the joints grabbed tighter by lunch. My foreman thinks it's a waste of time but the wall is still solid after two weeks of sun. Do you all wet down your units in summer or just throw more water in the mud?
