Spent $7.20 on a whole chicken that looked sad, turned it into 4 days of meals
Last Tuesday at the Food Lion on Elm Street I grabbed a marked down rotisserie chicken for $3.99 and a bag of carrots for $1.29 because my wallet was down to $12 until Friday. I was sure the chicken would be dry and gross but I pulled all the meat off, simmered the bones with the carrot tops and some old celery, then made soup, two chicken salad sandwiches and a pot of rice with the broth. What's your go to move when you're scraping the bottom of the grocery budget and still need to eat decent?
Wait, so you're saying a marked down chicken is actually a good buy? Honestly I'd argue that $3.99 is still too much when dried beans and rice can feed you for way less, and a sad chicken is still a gamble on whether it's edible.
