My backup knife roll failed at the worst possible moment

Had a 12-pound brisket half-trimmed last Tuesday when my secondary boning knife snapped at the handle, right in the middle of a rush order for a local restaurant. I've always kept a spare roll in my locker for exactly this, but the cheap backup had a cracked ferrule I never checked. Anyone else got burned by gear you assume is ready just because it's sitting there?
