Old bone saw vs my new electric one, the old one won me over

I dug out my granddad's old bone saw from the back of the shop last Tuesday, just for a big hog quarter. My electric saw kept binding on the joint, and the blade was dull after maybe 40 cuts. That old saw took 3 extra minutes but the cut was clean, no bone chips flying everywhere. I guess the hands-on feel makes up for the speed, or maybe I'm just set in my ways. Anyone else keep an older tool around that works better than the new stuff?

Wait, you're saying the old saw took three extra minutes but still won you over because of a clean cut? That's not really the old tool winning, that's you picking quality over speed, which is a fair trade but not exactly apples to apples. The electric saw would probably make the same clean cut if you took the same three minutes and worked the blade through slowly instead of forcing it. The real difference is the old saw forces you to go slow because it can't bind up as bad, while the electric one lets you get impatient and jam it in there. I've got a hand plane from my dad that I reach for over my power planer for the same reason, it won't let me rush the job. So maybe it's not the tool being better, it's the tool being better at keeping you honest.
