Just realized my old way of running coax through a finished basement was a huge waste of time
I used to always drill up from the crawlspace and fish blindly, which took me about 45 minutes per drop. Last month, a retired installer told me to use a flexible drill bit extension and go sideways along the floor joists from the utility room. Tried it on a job in Cedar Rapids last week and cut that time down to maybe 15 minutes. Anyone else have a simple trick that saved them a ton of time on a common job?

Man, I feel that. My old method was to try and snake a fish tape down from the attic like some kind of contortionist, usually just ended up knocking a bunch of insulation loose on my own head. Took forever and the success rate was maybe fifty-fifty. Switching to using a glow rod from below the floor made it feel like I'd discovered fire or something. Suddenly it was just... easy.

Honestly thought fishing from the attic was the only real way to do it. Seeing someone use a glow rod from below totally flipped that idea on its head. Might have to try that next time.
