I finally picked pine over oak for a kitchen island and I'm still second guessing it
Last month a client in Dayton wanted a butcher block island top and I went back and forth between hard maple and white oak for about a week. I went with maple because it takes a beating better and matches her existing cabinets, and honestly it finished up nice with just three coats of mineral oil. But the oak would have cost her about $180 less and had more grain to look at, so part of me is still chewing on it. Any of you run into a job where the cheaper wood would have looked better than the one you picked?
