Vent: my boss made us use a chalk line for stair stringers and we missed the mark by 3/8 inch on Friday
So last Friday we were framing stairs for a deck in Boise and my boss insisted on the old chalk line method for laying out the stringers. I wanted to use a framing square with the stair gauges, which takes maybe 10 minutes and stays dead on. He said the chalk line was faster, but we ended up with a 3/8 inch gap at the top riser and had to shim the whole thing. That cost us about an hour of rework and a trip back to the lumber yard for a new stringer board. I have used the square for 12 jobs now and never had a miss like that. Anyone else's crew still fighting over chalk lines vs gauges?
