My buddy who moved to Logan Square swore I had to use a broker for my apartment hunt

I ignored him and went direct with landlords on Zillow, ended up paying $200 less a month for a bigger place in Avondale, so now I'm wondering if brokers are even worth it for anyone moving here.

My buddy paid a broker $1,500 for a spot in Wicker Park that's barely bigger than my bathroom. I went direct on Facebook Marketplace and found a place in Logan Square for $1,100 with a backyard. Honestly, I think brokers are just for people who hate scrolling through listings or have more money than patience. But hey, my cheap ass will take a smaller closet and extra cash any day. Maybe I'm just too lazy to pay someone else to do the work I can mess up myself.

Hell yeah, I had a similar experience. @margaret_gonzalez25 I'm with you on that one. I skipped the broker route too when I moved here, just used Zillow and drove around neighborhoods looking for "For Rent" signs. Ended up in a solid two-bedroom in Jefferson Park for way less than what brokers were pushing in Logan Square. It took a little more legwork and weekend driving, but saving that cash was totally worth it for me. Your mileage may vary though.

Ditched my broker too and found a gem in Portage Park for $300 less.
