Paid $400 for a 'moving consultant' and it was just a sales pitch

I hired someone from a relocation service in the Loop to plan my move from Austin to Lincoln Park. They charged $400 upfront and all they did was push me toward their partner moving companies, which quoted me double what I found on my own. The only useful thing was a free parking permit PDF they emailed over, which I could've grabbed from the city site. Anyone else get burned by these 'consultants' or did I just pick the wrong one?

That $400 basically bought you a lesson in how everything now is just a middleman fee for info you can get free, like paying extra for a "certified" version of something the city hands out anyway.
