Paying for a storage unit for 6 months before I even moved here was such a waste
I put $1,200 into a storage unit in the suburbs back in January thinking I'd move into my apartment by March. Well my lease fell through, then I had to stay with my cousin in Ohio for 3 extra months while I sorted things out. All that money just to keep a couch and some boxes I could have sold and rebought here. Anyone else pay for stuff way too early before actually getting to Chicago?

Ever look at the contract and realize you basically paid for a year of Netflix, a nice dinner every month, AND someone's rent for a closet? I did the math on mine once and felt sick. Small stuff like old winter coats and a spare tire I never needed ended up costing me more than the items were worth. Could've just sold the couch for $200 on Facebook Marketplace and used that cash plus the savings to buy a better one here.

Dude I did the same thing and wanted to punch myself. I stored an old mattress and box spring for two years just because I thought I'd use it again. Paid like $80 a month for that and a few boxes of random junk. Sold the mattress on Craigslist for $40 last month and threw the rest out. Could've bought a new one twice over with what I wasted on storage.
