My old man taught me sweeps in our garage, but my wife says our boy should wait
Back then, I was up on roofs with him by age twelve. It built my confidence and skills fast. But my wife points out the risks and thinks he should focus on school first. I see her point, but part of me wants him to know the trade early. Where do you all stand on kids in the family business?

Hearing you were on roofs at twelve just highlights the risks your wife sees. Isn't it better to let him focus on school and safety for now? Those skills can wait a few years.

At twelve, I was already using tools safely. What makes you think waiting a few years changes the risk so much? How do you decide when it's okay to start?

Roofs at twelve? That's wild. My mom wouldn't let me near a ladder at that age. Seems like a good way to get seriously hurt.
