Update: Bought a $400 coolant filtration unit and it's the best shop money I've spent this year.
My sump was always full of chips and sludge, killing pump seals and making a mess. This little unit keeps the coolant crystal clear and I haven't had to change a filter in 3 months. Anyone else using something like this on their older VMC?

What brand did you go with and how hard was it to hook up?

How much time did you waste cleaning sumps before getting that filter? We ran a grimy old Fadal for years and the coolant was basically mud. After we put in a separator, the pumps stopped dying every six months and the whole shop smells less like a swamp. Best part is not having to shovel out that nasty chip paste every Friday.

Sounds like a lot of hassle for a bit of dirty coolant. Just run it till it quits and dump it. Those separators cost a ton anyway. We just blow out the lines when they clog. Takes an hour, tops.
