I finally asked my 12 year old nephew to debug my code

He pointed at my nested for loop and said 'why not just use a dictionary' and it took me 20 minutes to realize he was right, anyone else ever get schooled by a kid who just learned Python last month?

Ever read that study about how kids pick up new languages way faster than adults because they don't have bad habits yet? That's exactly what this reminds me of. Your nephew hasn't spent years banging his head against nested loops, so he just sees the obvious path. I had a similar thing happen with my cousin, she rewrote my whole sorting script with one set function and I felt stupid for a week. Kids don't know what's supposed to be hard, so they just do it the easy way.
