I tried making a simple game with two different beginner tutorials...

The first one just gave me code to copy, but the second one from a site called 'Codecademy' made me type each line myself and explained why it worked. I actually remember how to fix things now when they break. Do you learn better from copying code or writing it out step by step?

Codecademy actually worked for someone?

It got me started, but you HAVE to build your own projects to really learn. Following their lessons is like training wheels, you gotta take them off eventually. I used it for Python basics then made a dumb little script to organize my downloads folder. That's where it actually clicked.

I spent about six months on Codecademy back in 2015 to learn HTML and CSS. Their structured path gave me the confidence to actually believe I could build something, which was half the battle for me. I don't see it as training wheels so much as a solid map before you start your own trip. For some learners, having that clear direction first is what makes the later project work possible.
