My for loop ran forever because I left out one tiny thing

Last Tuesday I was practicing a basic for loop in Python while waiting for my truck to get an oil change, and my terminal just sat there frozen for like 4 minutes. I totally forgot to add the increment line, so the counter never moved and it looped forever until I hit Ctrl+C. How do you all catch mistakes like that without staring at the screen forever?
