Nostalgic for when a typo in a comment made the whole thread funny
Now posts vanish in a flash. Back then, we'd reference that typo for months.

On forums back in 2005, a typo could become a inside joke for weeks. But honestly, how many of those were actually hilarious? Usually it was just mild fun at someone's mistake. These days content moves faster so jokes die quicker. It's not a big deal, just how things work now.

The mildness was kinda the point though. On old phpBB boards, a running typo joke just meant you all checked the same thread for weeks. Built a shared history even if the joke itself was mid.

Totally get what you mean about mild jokes building shared history. In my experience, the forced ones never stuck anyway. People would only keep a typo joke alive if it genuinely caught on, otherwise it felt like homework. The real inside jokes always had a low bar for entry but high replay value.
