Skimpy gloves cost me $1600 in medical bills in Port Arthur

Last month I was dunking on a tank cleaning job and my cheap neoprene gloves snagged on a valve. Tore a gash in my palm, had to surface early and get 8 stitches. The gloves were $22 and I thought they'd handle the job, but the cuff stitching is pure junk. The dive shop said I should've spent $80 on the reinforced kind with the Kevlar palm. Nobody warned me that glove failure is the most expensive 5 seconds you'll ever have. What glove brand actually holds up on your rigs, or do you just double-layer every time?
