TIL you can cut a stuck shackle pin with a thermal lance in under 3 minutes
Had a shackle pin on a mooring line in Port Aransas that would not budge after 2 hours of cheater bars and PB Blaster. My supervisor said cut it, so I grabbed the thermal lance and burned it out in about 2 and a half minutes. Half the crew says that's the only way to deal with rusted pins, other half says you risk cooking the shackle body and weakening it. Where do you draw the line on heat vs. mechanical removal?
