Warning: don't pull a broom finish too early on a hot pour, my 12x20 slab in Phoenix taught me that
Last month I did a 12x20 patio pour here in Phoenix, 98 degrees by 10am, and I tried pulling my broom too early on one half just to keep up with the sun. The other half waited about 15 more minutes after the bleed water went away. The early half came out hairy and uneven, and I had to hit it with a float again which was a mess. The half I waited on had clean, even grooves and honestly looked better than what I usually turn out. The big thing was just watching the shine go off the surface before touching it, not going by the clock like my old lead guy used to. My question is on really hot days, do you guys use a retarder or just chase the shade and work fast?
