Rant: I killed my most popular series because of one brand deal and I still think about it
Back in March I had two offers on the table for my woodworking channel: a $4,000 sponsored post from a tool company, or keep running my free shop tour series that was pulling maybe 300 views an episode. I took the money. The sponsor post did fine but my comments got ugly, people called me a sellout, and my next three organic uploads tanked to under 200 views each. Has anyone here taken a deal like that and actually won the audience back, or is that trust just gone?
Did you ever watch a channel fall off a cliff after one bad move and wonder if they ever got it back? I saw this guy who did fishing videos, super small, like 500 subs. He took a deal with some energy drink and his next ten videos barely cracked 100 views. He kept posting anyway, just kept doing his normal stuff, and about six months later one of his plain old fishing clips popped off. The comments were full of people saying they forgot he even did that sponsor thing. So the trust might not be gone forever, it just takes way longer than you want it to.
