I finally fixed my floor squeak problem after 2 years of ignoring it

Built our place in Boise back in 2022 and there was this one spot in the hallway that squeaked every single time you stepped on it. Drove me nuts but I kept putting it off. Last Saturday I pulled up the carpet and found a floor joist that was nailed instead of screwed, and the nail had worked loose. Took me about 2 hours with a drill and some 3 inch screws to lock everything down. No more noise. Has anyone else dealt with a squeak that turned out to be something stupid simple? What was the fix?

Did you check the other joists while you had the carpet up, or just fix the one that was squeaking? Seems like if one nail worked loose in 2 years, the others might be right behind it. Also, did you use regular construction screws or deck screws with that coating on them? I've heard the coated ones grip better and don't back out as easy over time. Just curious if you went all in or just did the bare minimum to stop the noise.

I saw a YouTube video where a guy fixed a squeak by putting baby powder under the carpet, but your screw fix sounds way more solid than that.
