My electrician talked me out of a smart panel, now I get why
Last week I was pricing out a full smart electrical panel for the house we're framing near Austin. Got quoted around $6,800 with all the breakers and monitoring stuff. My electrician, who's been doing houses for 20 years, just shook his head and said 'you're paying for an app you'll check twice.' He showed me how the old school panel with a few dedicated circuits does exactly what I need, plus a cheap energy monitor on the main lines gives me 90% of the data. The more I think about it, the more I wonder if we're all overselling the tech on builds. Has anyone else had a contractor talk them out of something and later felt grateful for it?
