Saw two builders argue over spray foam vs. batt in Austin, made me rethink my plan

I was at a job site near Round Rock last Thursday and overheard two experienced GCs going at it. One said spray foam is the only way to hit modern energy codes in Texas heat, while the other swore batts plus good venting save $4,000 upfront and work fine if installed right. My own build is set for a 2,400 sq ft place, and now I'm stuck between higher upfront costs versus long-term utility savings. Has anyone here actually tracked their energy bills for 5+ years after choosing one over the other?

Man, that's a tough spot to be in. I feel for you, cause picking wrong on this can haunt you for years with utility bills or comfort issues. We went through the same back and forth on our place and it's stressful when you're just trying to make the best call for your family and budget.
