Warning: Don't let your framers skip the shear wall nailing pattern
I walked a house last week where the framers had nailed the shear walls every 12 inches instead of every 6 like the plans said. The engineer caught it during his inspection and made them pull out every other nail and redo the whole thing. That cost the homeowner an extra $2,800 in labor and materials to fix. Has anyone else had their builder try to shortcut structural details like this?

That happened to a buddy of mine on his new build... framers thought they could save time on the nail pattern and the inspector shut the whole job down for a week.

Read a story online about a guy in Texas who framed his own garage and messed up the nail spacing so bad the whole roof sagged six inches in a year. Inspectors catch that stuff for a reason, it's not just them being picky. A week shutdown sounds like a pain but at least they found it before the drywall went up.
