Warning: Don't fall for those cheap 'password managers' on shady sites

I paid $12 for some random password keeper from a pop-up ad and lost all my logins when the site vanished three weeks later. Has anyone else had a similar deal with a junk tool like that?

Haha "digital equivalent of a guy in a trenchcoat selling watches" - that's exactly what it was, except my trenchcoat guy was a blinking banner promising to remember all my passwords AND my grandma's peach cobbler recipe. I swear I thought I was being smart, like I'd discovered some secret deal while the rest of you were overpaying for LastPass. Joke's on me, I guess my logins are now living in that same magical server farm where my $12 went - straight into the void.

Wait wait wait, you actually paid $12 for a password manager from a pop-up ad? Dude, my jaw literally dropped when I read that. Pop-up ads are like the digital equivalent of a guy in a trenchcoat selling watches out of a briefcase, I can't believe anyone actually gives those things money. I mean I get wanting to save a buck but password managers are one of those things where you really gotta stick with the known names or just use the one built into your browser for free. That whole site vanishing sounds about right honestly, those fly-by-night operations pop up, take your cash, and disappear faster than a pizza delivery on a rainy night.
