Just learned the hard way about aftermarket turbo rebuild kits
I tried to save cash by buying a $200 kit online for a 6.7 Powerstroke instead of going OEM. The cheap bearings failed after maybe 500 miles, taking the whole turbo with it. Now I'm out the cost of the kit plus a $1200 core charge for the replacement. Has anyone found a decent mid-price brand that actually holds up?

Yeah, like thomas.parker said, Garrett kits are the move.

Saw a forum thread where a few guys swore by the Garrett rebuild kits for the 6.7. They cost more than the cheap stuff but way less than a whole new unit.

Check the kit part numbers against your turbo's serial number... the 6.7 had a few different vane cartridge designs. Got burned once using the wrong one and had to redo the whole job. The extra cost for the Garrett box is worth it for the proper seals alone.
