That viral ladder fail video from last week looked fake but it happened to my neighbor

I saw that clip of a guy setting up a ladder on a muddy hill and it tipping sideways. Totally thought it was staged for views. Then my neighbor Bob tried to clean his gutters on a wet lawn in Portland last Tuesday and his ladder did the exact same thing. He ended up in the bushes with a broken gutter downspout. Anyone else have a fail you saw online and then saw in real life?

Wait, people actually think a ladder slipping on wet ground is some kind of deep, shocking event? It's just physics, man. Muddy hill plus wet grass equals a bad time, not a conspiracy theory. I get that the video might look a little over the top for views, but ladders have been doing this since ladders existed. Honestly, it's not like your neighbor discovered some hidden truth about the internet.

Honestly I was in the same boat @jana119, I saw that video and thought no way that's real. But after Bob's ladder skidded out exactly the same way (muddy yard, wet grass, everything), I had to admit it's just basic physics at work. It's kind of wild how seeing it happen to someone you know changes your whole take on a viral clip.

Bob’s gutter downspout got wrecked too? oh man, that sucks. @hernandez.finley is right that it’s just physics, but still, watching it happen in real life is way worse than online.
