I used scrap fabric to test dyes and it changed my color palette.

Testing on scraps prevents costly mistakes on final garments.

But like, testing on scraps is just common sense. It saves cash on bigger projects. Hardly a life hack, just basic stuff.

Hey @jennifer1, calling it 'common sense' might be true, but that's exactly why people mess up. They think it's so basic that they jump straight into the big project without testing. I've seen folks waste more money fixing mistakes than if they'd just tested on scraps first. It's not just about cash, it's about building good habits and avoiding frustration. So while @jennifer1 is right that it's basic, treating it like a life hack could remind us to actually do it. What makes you stick to testing on scraps when you're in a hurry?

Yeah when blair said people jump straight to the big project that's so true. I get being in a hurry but rushing the dye step almost always means you ruin the main fabric and have to start over, which takes way longer than just testing a scrap first. I keep a jar of pre-cut scraps right next to my dye stuff so there's no excuse to skip it. That five minute wait for the scrap test has saved so many of my good shirts from turning out a nasty color.
