Appreciation post: Watching a crew install a fence on a hill near my house got me to rethink slope work.

I used to think grading was too much hassle, but their method of stepping the posts convinced me it's worth the extra time.

My neighbor had his driveway fence done that way last fall, super steep grade. Made me realize trying to force it level always looks wrong.

Stepping posts is a smart move on hills, but it's key to set them deep enough for stability. @the_keith's neighbor's fence probably held up because of proper depth, not just the stepping method. If the posts aren't anchored well, the whole fence can lean over time. That extra time spent on grading and post setting really pays off in the long run. Have you seen fences fail from poor installation on slopes?
