Hit a water line while digging post holes, total nightmare

Was digging for a new fence in a backyard last month. Got too confident and didn't call for utility markings. My auger hit a water line, and it burst everywhere. Had to shut it off and fix it, which delayed the job by a week. Now I always make that call first, no exceptions, lmao.

Ever think about how much water gets wasted in those bursts? Like, gallons just gone. Kinda crazy when you stop and picture it.

The city's own report from last year said a single main break on Maple Avenue lost over 200,000 gallons before they could shut it off. That's not a leak, it's a swimming pool pouring straight into the storm drain. They keep patching the same old pipes instead of replacing them. At this point, the waste is basically a policy choice.
