My cat's 'assistance' turned a simple finish into a furry fiasco
I thought letting my cat hang out in the shop was harmless. Then he jumped on a freshly polyurethaned table. Now there's a perfect paw print preserved forever under the gloss. I learned to keep the door shut during critical coats. The client actually loved it and called it 'artisanal'.

People act like one little flaw ruins the whole piece. It's a table, not a museum piece. The client liked it, so the job was a success. A paw print under the finish just gives it a story. Sometimes perfect is boring anyway.

Hey, I tell clients that paw print just proves it's handmade, not factory perfect.

A hidden paw print under varnish can actually weaken the finish and cause cracks later. Selling that as a charming story feels like a cop-out for not cleaning the surface properly. When someone orders custom work, they're paying for careful skill, not random defects. I'd be pretty annoyed if I discovered a permanent flaw after paying full price.
