Bought a cheap 'heat shield' glove online and it melted in five minutes

I saw this thing on a website for like $15, and it looked like a good deal for handling hot punties. Tried it on a simple gather from the furnace, and the whole palm area just turned to goo. Had to drop the piece and start over. Has anyone found a decent pair that won't fall apart without costing a fortune?

What were you expecting for fifteen bucks? That's basically costume gear money. I've learned the hard way that anything touching hot glass needs to be real leather or a proper nomex/kevlar blend. You just can't skip on safety gear, it's not worth the risk of a bad burn.

Honestly that "you just can't skip on safety gear" thing is so true for everything. I see it with cheap bike helmets or sketchy power strips, people trying to save a few bucks on stuff that really matters.

My first pair of those gloves turned into a sad, melted cheese slice. I was left holding a hot punty with my bare fingers, which was a real wake-up call. Now I just use a thick, old welding glove I found at a yard sale. It's ugly but it hasn't tried to become one with the glass yet.
